About the Event
The Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine (ASAM) will host the 60th annual Conference & Scientific Meeting at Crowne Plaza Newcastle from Thursday, 6th to Sunday, 9th October 2011.
We expect around 120 delegates from all over Australia and New Zealand. ASAM members are mainly General Practitioners with an interest in aviation, many of whom are pilots themselves. ASAM members also include ophthalmologists and other specialist physicians and surgeons. ASAM has a strong representation of medical practitioners in the military.
The purpose of this important national event is to provide a formal professional development meeting incorporating opportunities for Australian and New Zealand health practitioners to interact, share experiences, hear other’s stories, teach and learn.
This year’s conference focus is on endocrinology and ophthalmology with the theme ‘Keeping your eye on the ball’. With the increasing prevalence of obesity and diabetes, and the recent implementation of CASA’s protocol for Class 2 pilots with Type 1 Diabetes, the theme-related topics are most timely and very relevant to CASA Designated Aviation Medicine Examiners (DAMEs) and Designated Aviation Ophthalmologists (DAOs).
The Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine will apply to the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) for this learning activity to be accredited for Category 1 points.
Two and a half days... The 2011 Conference will have two and a half days of conferencing – beginning with the Welcome Reception on Thursday evening at Fort Scratchley, and finishing with a Farewell Lunch on Sunday afternoon.
The social events such as the Welcome Reception and the Conference Dinner are available for sponsorship.

A different conference venue...
The 2011 Conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza Newcastle. Trade displays will be held in the area where delegates will congregate during catering breaks.
In addition to the trade display there will be ample opportunities for you to liaise with delegates at social functions and meal breaks.
