Associated EventsPlace Makers: Contemporary Queensland Architects The work of 22 contemporary Queensland architectural practices will feature in a major new exhibition exploring diverse design responses to our climate, changing lifestyle patterns and population growth. ‘Place Makers: Contemporary Queensland Architects’ spans residential, public and institutional projects built in the last 15 years and incorporates several generations of architects. Neighbourhood Shadeways Tree Planting Activity These are local street tree planting projects which target shade-hungry pathways in Brisbane neighbourhoods to encourage walking, cycling and cooling of our urban heat islands. 1 – 4 September, 2008 A FUTURE OF EXTREMES… The global future of rivers is threatened by too little or too much water. The 11th International Riversymposium will explore the challenges associated with the increased incidence of flooding and drought expected with climate change. What changes can we anticipate? How can we adapt? How will we manage our future of extremes? The International Riversymposium is an integral part of the Riverfestival, an environmental and cultural celebration of the Brisbane River and its people. 9 June to 14 September 2008 Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) An exhibition of Pablo Picasso's personal art collection will be held for the first time outside of Europe, and exclusively in Brisbane, at Brisbane's Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) . The exceptional exhibition will present around 150 works from Picasso’s extraordinary art collection. Up to 30 important works by Picasso have been selected to hang alongside works from his collection by friends and contemporaries to highlight the relationship between what Picasso collected and his own work. |
