Place Makers: Contemporary Queensland Architects

Place Makers, at GoMA2 August – 23 November, GoMA

The work of 22 contemporary Queensland architectural practices will feature in a major new exhibition exploring diverse design responses to our climate, changing lifestyle patterns and population growth. ‘Place Makers: Contemporary Queensland Architects’ spans residential, public and institutional projects built in the last 15 years and incorporates several generations of architects.

Architects will include: Rex Addison, Andresen O’Gorman, Arkhefield, Bark, Bligh Voller Nield, Bud Brannigan Architects, Lindsay & Kerry Clare (Architectus), Cox Rayner Architects, Donovan Hill, Richard Kirk Architect, JMA Architects, m3architecture, Ian Moore Architects, Owen and Vokes, Phorm Architecture + Design, Gabriel Poole, Riddel Architecture, James Russell Architect, Brian Steendÿk, Jennifer Taylor and James Connor, Elizabeth Watson Brown Architects and Wilson Architects.

Neighbourhood Shadeways Tree Planting Activity

Saturday, 6 September, from 9.00am-11.00am

These are local street tree planting projects which target shade-hungry pathways in Brisbane neighbourhoods to encourage walking, cycling and cooling of our urban heat islands.

Stonycroft Street, Aspley (UBD 119:H7)
from 9.00am - 11.00am, Saturday 6th Sept
includes planting of 318 shade trees in 28 streets and includes sausage and cold drinks after.

To get to this venue via public transport from the CBD, the following is recommended:
Bus from King George Square Bus Station: ASPLEY BUZ 345 at 8.30am, fare is $7.60 return Exit bus at cnr. of Horn St.
and Maundrell Trce at Aspley State School, and walk (using attached Map (PDF, 259KB) to Stonycroft Street (850m).
This event is run by Brisbane City Council contractor, River City Garden and Lawn.

11th International RiversymposiumRiver Symposium

A FUTURE OF EXTREMES…

The global future of rivers is threatened by too little or too much water. The 11th International Riversymposium will explore the challenges associated with the increased incidence of flooding and drought expected with climate change. What changes can we anticipate? How can we adapt?  How will we manage our future of extremes?

The International Riversymposium is an integral part of the Riverfestival, an environmental and cultural celebration of the Brisbane River and its people.

Picasso ExhibitionPicasso and his collection

Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA)

An exhibition of Pablo Picasso's personal art collection will be held for the first time outside of Europe, and exclusively in Brisbane, at Brisbane's Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) .

The exceptional exhibition will present around 150 works from Picasso’s extraordinary art collection. Up to 30 important works by Picasso have been selected to hang alongside works from his collection by friends and contemporaries to highlight the relationship between what Picasso collected and his own work.
